SULLIVAN COUNTY JAIL

Advance Testing was contracted by Sullivan County Division of Purchasing for this $72 million-dollar facility. The project included a new jail as well as new offices for the sheriff’s patrol and civil division. The new complex replaced Sullivan County’s vintage 1909 jail, which was the oldest operating jail in New York. The new jail is setup for direct supervision, in which cells are grouped into pods. Each pod has a common-area dayroom, a multipurpose room that can be used for classes or religious services, an outdoor recreation area, and a central podium where a correction deputy will be stationed to supervise the pod. The facility has 256 beds, as compared to the old jail’s current state mandated cap of 185. The building’s modular construction will allow for future expansion. Services provided by Advance Testing included soil compaction testing; bearing capacity inspection; inspection of utility installations; concrete field testing and inspection; bearing capacity inspection; masonry inspection and testing; structural steel, bolting and welding inspections; floor flatness testing; spray on fireproofing testing; asphalt field inspection; inspection of precast concrete products being produced at an off-site facility; and an array of laboratory testing.
