IBM 300MM PROJECT

Advance Testing was awarded the site-wide inspection and testing services on this $2.2 billion state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, deemed the largest private sector project in New York State history at the time. The project encompassed the construction of several new buildings, rehabilitation and retrofitting of several existing structures, and the construction and installation of myriad trestle systems to carry various piping throughout the complex. Testing and inspection work includes soil, concrete, structural steel and specialty coating inspections. Drilled caissons were utilized to support the pipe trestle network, requiring extensive inspection, subsurface exploration and confined space entry/monitoring. The contractor Whiting-Turner Construction Company, employed up to twelve separate superintendents to manage the various phase work required.  Over 1,200 trades’ people were employed at the peak of construction activity on this site.  Advance Testing provided a project manager, a support staff of up to twelve field technicians and two remote fabrication facility inspectors.  An elaborate system of checks and balances was required to ensure verification of compliance and distribution of documentation to the appropriate entities.
